Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 11, 2026

MotorCalc ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and what rights you have. It applies to all users of MotorCalc, accessible at motorcalc.io.

1. Who We Are

MotorCalc is operated by [COMPANY NAME], registered at [ADDRESS]. For any privacy-related questions, contact our Data Controller at privacy@motorcalc.io.

2. Data We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide and improve the service:

  • Account data: Your name, email address, company name, and job title provided at registration.
  • Calculation history: The input parameters you enter (motor specs, winding data) and the computed results, stored so you can review them later.
  • Motor catalogue interactions: Motors you view or link to a calculation.
  • Payment data: Billing transactions are processed entirely by Stripe. We receive only a Stripe Customer ID and subscription status — no credit card numbers are ever stored on our servers.
  • Technical data: Your IP address, browser type, and session tokens required to authenticate you securely.
  • Communications: Emails you send to our support address.

We do not collect sensitive personal data (race, health, biometrics, etc.) and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Service delivery: To create and manage your account, process your subscription or lifetime purchase, and provide access to all features.
  • Transactional communications: To send essential emails such as account confirmation, payment receipts, password resets, and service notices.
  • Security: To detect fraud, unauthorized access, and abuse.
  • Legal compliance: To fulfill tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations.
  • Service improvement: Aggregated, anonymized usage patterns may be analyzed internally to improve the calculator engines and user experience. This analysis does not identify individual users.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their marketing purposes.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance: Processing necessary to provide the service you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests: Security monitoring and internal analytics, balanced against your privacy rights.
  • Legal obligation: Tax and financial record-keeping.
  • Consent: Where you have explicitly opted in (e.g., marketing emails, if offered).

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data and calculation history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data and associated calculations are permanently deleted within 30 days, except for records we must retain to comply with legal obligations (e.g., payment records for tax purposes, retained for 7 years in most jurisdictions).

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following sub-processors, each governed by their own privacy policy:

  • Stripe — Payment processing. Stripe's Privacy Policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.
  • [EMAIL PROVIDER, e.g., Resend / SendGrid] — Transactional email delivery.
  • [HOSTING PROVIDER, e.g., Vercel / AWS] — Application hosting and database infrastructure.

We do not use advertising networks or behavioral tracking tools.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Update inaccurate or incomplete information (most fields are editable in your Profile page).
  • Deletion ("Right to be Forgotten"): Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data.
  • Portability: Receive your calculation history in a machine-readable format (CSV/JSON).
  • Objection / Restriction: Object to or restrict certain types of processing.
  • Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@motorcalc.io. We will respond within 30 days. If you are in the EU/EEA and believe we have mishandled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority.

California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

8. Security

We apply industry-standard security measures including TLS/SSL encryption for all data in transit, encrypted storage for sensitive fields, and access controls that limit who on our team can view user data. However, no system is 100% secure — if you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at security@motorcalc.io.

9. International Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States, where our hosting infrastructure operates. When transferring data from the EEA, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission to ensure adequate protection.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top and notify active users by email for material changes. Continued use of MotorCalc after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
